Welcome to coco-jewelry.com! Our Web site is dedicated to bringing you the best information possible about fashion jewelry, gold jewelry, and silver jewelry.
While it may seem that there isn’t much to say about jewelry, the opposite is in fact the case. What’s harder than finding good information on jewelry is finding information that isn’t coupled with a sales pitch. And sometimes, it is all but impossible to get anything out of an associate at a jewelry store without opening your wallet just to prove you have the “right” to ask questions.
That is why we strive to provide an environment free of sales hype, and only provide the facts, free to all. So again, welcome to our site, and we hope you enjoy your time here. If you have any questions regarding what you see here, please send us an email. The next time you stop by you could see your question answered in our FAQ section.
Fashion jewelry is a fairly huge segment of the jewelry market, and there’s good reason for it. While bridal jewelry carries bigger ticket items than fashion, there are far more pieces of fashion jewelry in the average woman’s jewelry box. Bridal jewelry consists in an engagement ring and a wedding band, the two are sometimes a matched set. Fashion jewelry is an umbrella term that covers just about anything else in the jewelry world. A birthstone ring qualifies, so does a superbowl ring, although you’ll have a tougher time finding one of those in the average jewelry store.
Necklaces, earrings, and bracelets are all also fashion jewelry. This is why it is the largest portion of the jewelry market. You hopefully only ever need one set of wedding jewelry, and you wear it nearly all the time (some people do wear it all the time). On the flip side, you wear any specific piece of fashion jewelry only once in a while, but you own or purchase a great number of them.
Most jewelry is made from one of two metals, gold or silver. Gold has a warm, yellow glow, and is also considered among the most precious metals on earth. Some of this at least dates to the long history of gold jewelry. Gold has such a long history because it is one of the softest metals, meaning that it was one of the first metals that early man was able to work with tools and a forge. Because of its extreme softness, gold is often alloyed with other metals to increase its durability and strength.
Pure gold is 24 karat gold. The karat here is different than the size denomination of diamonds, which is also measured in carats. Most gold jewelry is lowered to 22 or 18, even down to 14 karats in order to strengthen the metal. Another reason for mixing is to change the color. Mixing gold with palladium creates white gold, which gives off a brilliant silvery sheen, while still providing the status that only comes with gold.
Silver jewelry is less expensive than gold, and it is preferred by those to eschew gold’s yellow metallic luster. Silver jewelry is much better to set off certain skin tones, ones that look sickly when paired with a yellow, such as gold. While white gold can also solve this problem, silver is a metal that is easily workable, and more abundantly available than gold is. This means that the average price of silver jewelry is a mere fraction of gold’s. If you’re looking for the best mileage out of your money, silver is the way to go.
