Wedding jewelry encompasses some of the most important jewelry purchases that a person makes in their lifetime. A woman’s engagement ring is considered an extremely big deal, at least to her, and a smart fiancée will take it equally seriously. The “standard wisdom” is that a man should spend six months pay on an engagement ring.

That’s quite a chunk of change for even the most menial laborer. But a wedding is ideally a once in a lifetime event, and it’s not the type of event that you want to say that you gave less than your all for. Thus, the budget for wedding jewelry hasn’t moved much over the years, although what you can purchase with that budget is certainly in constant flux.

An engagement ring is the larger of the two purchases of wedding jewelry. It has a large center diamond, but many modern rings are designed with other diamonds in the band of the ring itself. some designs even feature other stones, such as rubies and sapphires in the ring design, but the center diamond is always the focal point of the design.
