Turquoise Jewelry

Turquoise jewelry is one of the oldest forms of jewelry on earth. turquoise, a mineral deposit, was one of the first gem stones mined. It and gold were also among the first workable materials for ancient man, because they are both soft. Turquoise is especially soft when compared to other gemstones, such as sapphires or diamonds.

Turquoise jewelry is prized for its bright blue coloration, the color of a tropical sea. A deeper blue is an indication of a higher quality stone. Although synthetically made turquoise is very common today, there is still an abundance of natural turquoise being mined. One of the largest producers of turquoise is actually the United States.

Turquoise jewelry is something that collectors seek, especially the pieces that date back to antiquity. A modern piece of turquoise won’t fetch much on the market, due to synthetics driving down price. But antiques are still much sought after, and can fetch eye-popping prices. The beauty of the stone is a timeless one, although it is warmer and more personable than most gemstones.
