Hip Hop Jewelry

Hip hop jewelry can also be referred to as ice. It is a subculture of jewelry that can be kindly referred to as loud. Indeed, loud says a lot about the message that is being sent by wearing jewelry like that. It seems to make the beholder say “that can’t possibly be real… can it?” and that is just the way the type to seek out hip hop jewelry wants it to be.

Hip hop jewelry is large, and often blocky. It can be either silver or gold metallic in color, though even when it is silvery, the material used is more often white gold or platinum than actual silver. The jewelry is also diamond encrusted. Now when we say diamond encrusted, we really mean it. Imagine someone tried to make a piece of jewelry into a food item to be breaded. Then imagine that they whipped up a batch of diamond breading.

That should give you a fairly accurate image. Now obviously, not everyone can afford a three inch plaque with their name in diamonds across it. Unfortunately, imitations abound, and all it takes to fake it is a quick trip to a costume shop, where they’ll sell you something that looks similar for a lot less. Imitation is a form of flattery, to be sure, but if you can’t pull off the real thing, maybe you shouldn’t be trying.
