Gold Jewelry

Gold jewelry is a mainstay of jewelry stores everywhere. Silver is an option for jewelry, but for higher end jewelry gold is clearly superior. For starters, it doesn’t tarnish. Silver is notoriously difficult to keep clean, but gold is relatively stable chemically, so it may get dirty, but never tarnished. Gold has long been a symbol of power because of how difficult it is to acquire.

Gold jewelry can come in yellow gold, which is the gold standard, please pardon the pun. You can find gold in other colors than the common yellow, though these are alloys. For example, silver and palladium can be added to gold to create white gold, which is sought after by those who have a complexion better complimented by white than yellow.

But white isn’t the only other color gold jewelry can be. Blues, greens, and reds are also possible. They require other metals, but they are very visually striking. Combining with copper creates reddish gold, while iron casts a blue tinge on the metal. A combination of silver and copper produces a green gold that is sure to catch the eye of the beholder.
